This narrative song is a re-telling of the story of David and Goliath from 1 Samuel: 17. It describes the wonder of the crowd, marveling first at what they regard as the impunity; and later at the bravery of David as he kills the Philistine giant. Edwards's setting employs both rhythmic and harmonic choral ostinati and intersperses David's calm reasoned statements with the mutterings and exclamations from the crows as they observe the scene. Review by Linda Estes: Five Stars. 'An energetic piece for all choirs. The parts are very accessible and students really like this one. Can't miss. Lots of opportunity for teaching good choral music at every turn.'
