Espionage is scored for 2 Violins, 2 Violas and 2 Violincellos (No bowing has been included but left to the performers.) It is a descriptive piece, and the intention was to make it a dramatic and mysterious in style. It has a calm intro going into a heavily syncopated driving 4 as the main theme punctuated by a heavy accented ostinato figure to add tension. The middle section is calmer. legato and more relaxed where elements of the 1st theme appear in fragmented form. The intro returns once again before returning to the main theme which has slight modifications-extra accents etc, and the piece ends with the recurring stabs heard earlier before flourishing out.
