Description

An atmospheric work depicting the "Long Mountain" found along the Colorado Front Range, known commonly as "Pikes Peak" and named after Zebulon Pike and his failed expedition to climb to the mountain's summit. The work describes the mountain in musical form, then segues to Pike's effort to scale the mountain. There is a hint, here and there, of the Arapahoe Indian presence which existed before Pike. "Long Mountain" is, after all, a translation of their original name for it: Heey-otoyoo. (Grade 4)
