This song was originally written as part of a larger set of pieces for a virtual production of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night by All The World's A Stage in Summer of 2020. When I first read the ending to the play, I imagine I had an experience comparable to how most people felt. It is a strangely wistful and introspective collection of poetry for a show that is so focused on the humorous follies of people eager to find love, and I really wanted to tap into that feeling here. I think the end result helps show a complexity to Feste that we only see hints at during the rest of the show.
